Pluses and Minuses of Google +

Adria Richards from ButYoureAGirl

Over the summer, Google+, a new social network, was launched to much fanfare. While some have touted it as a Facebook-killer, others wonder whether we need (and have time for) yet another social site.

Today, Google+ can provide SEO benefits, in-depth conversations and high-quality content sharing. In the near future, it may be useful for CRM, analytics, blogging, key intranet functions and more. But it may fade out as earlier Google social software has done. In this session, we’ll look at the features that distinguish Google+, particularly for businesses. We’ll also discuss reasons to be cautious in adopting it.

- Google+ had 10MM users in 16 days

- Other Social options: LinkedIn, Myspace, Ning, diaspora, Sharepoint, Confluence, Yammer, etc.

- Question: Are you running the right race? Whar are your goals?

Social Networks Compared - Google+ lowest yet fastest growing compared to FB and TW.

- Twitter is open - have been used as good, FB is closed and have some issues.

- Facebook - Most of the users are outside of US.

Socia Media - eveyrone wants to be at where everybody else is at.

Bieber - Started with Youtube video doing covers - people search covers so bigger reach

"Greatest thing since sliced bread" - all people doubted back then but never gave up

- Google is built for adults and geared towards developer where as Myspace was built for musicians and Facebook was built for college students.

"Women rule social media" except LinkedIn where males are majority.
